stereotypes, epiphanies and outsiders
I think there is some people who choose to be an Outsider. They choose to be an Outsider because they just don’t like to be with people or they just think they are unwanted. They feel like that because it is maybe how they act, their skin color, maybe they are a nerd or ware glasses. There are sometimes that people feel like an outsider or an insider.
There are different kinds of outsiders such as people who choose to be an outsider and those who don’t choose. There are also insiders and border liners. I am a border liner. But mostly an insider. I choose to be a border liner because sometimes when I am with kids that are a little bit older than me, I feel like an outsider, but when I am with kids my age we just goof around.
Stereotypes can cause someone to feel like an outsider. A stereotype is when you are judged on your character or personality. An example of a stereotype is when someone is illegal because they didn’t speak English and was really mad. He was illegal because he was born in TJ and not in the United States.
Another example about stereotypes come from the book discuss stereotypes. Pony boy, a greaser believes that socks are rich and have everything. Cherry, a soc believes that things are rough all over. More examples of stereotypes are like, insiders think that borer liners are lame and another one is that the greasers make fun of the socks because of the way that they dress or even act.
Stereotypes are also explored in C.Addichies Ted Talk called “ A danger of a single story. “ in this presentation she discusses about stereotyping Mexico, stereotyping Fiddy and stereotyping books. She stereotyped Mexico by imaginating people going into jail and trying to cross the border. She also stereotyped Fiddy because she said that her family was really poor. And stereotyped books because she said that there are many certain ways to talk about apples and weather and stuff.
Despites stereotypes and epiphanies challenge individuals to become better people. An epiphany is a big challenge in life. An example of someone who had an epiphany is my mom, Adrianna Mendoza. She was born and raised in TJ as well as my dad.
My moms life before was good and ok. Because she was living with her parents and younger brother JR. my mom said she was epiphanyed when she married my dad. And my moms afterlife with her epiphany was better than ok. I mean she never got to live with her parents and her brother but she at least got to see them.
In addition to Adrianna, there is also an example of an epiphany in the book, “ The Outsiders. “ Johnny’s last words words were “ stay gold Pony boy stay gold “ Johnny’s epiphany was when he helped Pony boy get the kids out of the church, as well as Dally.
Learning about outsiders, stereotypes and epiphanies has helped me to “ become human/ grow.” How to be strong, sort of like Pony boy from the outsiders. And also like Dally and Soda pop. I have always known how to be strong, but not that much strong like the Curtis brothers.
