Breaking through
Struggles can be defined as forceful or violent efforts to get free of restraint. Some may point out that struggle is acceptable. It could obtain or achieve something that you want to. Others consider that struggle is difficult. Much investigation has been performed on this topic. This essay will argue that against what some consider, specific struggles are multidimensional and have implications that can harm us.
Struggles are multidimensional. We see this in Breaking Through by Francisco Jimenez. For example, one of the struggles Panchito experiences is being undocumented. This struggle causes him to live in fear and be deported. Some examples from the text that provides evidence of his fear is when he says he got scared when the principal of his school and a police officer got in his classroom. He also showed fear when he was going underneath the wire hole because he thought that the police was going to see him and his family. An example of deportation is when him and his family got kicked out of the U.S. All in all struggles are multidimensional.
Along the lines of struggle being multidimensional, we can also examine its implications. Once again using Breaking Through Panchito’s struggles with poverty. Poverty effects Panchito’s education, living conditions, child labor, and health. There are examples from the book that show the implications of poverty. One example is when he went back to school but didn’t know how the others were going to treat him (pg. 21) this shows education. When he got their he was wrong, they all treated him nice. The second example is that Panchito is living alone with his brother Roberto.(pg. 15) This shows Living Conditions. They’re living without their family. The third example is people take their kids with them to work so that they can get more money, this shows child Labor. Those people are poor so need money. And the fourth example is that the doctor told panchito that he was under weight. (pg.13) This shows Health. The nurse checked his weight and height and said that he was a bit small for his age. As you can see these are examples that show Panchitos life and poverty.
Even though Breaking Through, talks about the implications of poverty we can still find it in other sources and books. First, the lack of support at home will decrease chances of education success. Secondly, the peer pressure from others is not to have the “ right” clothes or things that can hinder ones learning. As poverty can affect health and education it can also affect child labor. Twenty- seven percent of the poor lives in families that are also poor. They also worked in agriculture, home- based operations, factories, mining and in services such as newsies. Secondly, Some Children work night shifts lasting 12 hours. Not sleeping enough can cause a bad thing for your health. Thirdly, worldwide agriculture is the largest employer of child labour. Majority of child labor is found in rural settings and informal urban economy.
Poverty can also affect treatment in your body. Patient’s income works to decrease their Health. First, treating people with low income with a higher income will have at least as a big impact on their health. Doing drugs or smoking can cause it. Secondly, Poverty can be defined as a disease in your body. Doctors can connect patients with programs. And thirdly, toxic trees can lead to potentially permanent changes in you learning. It can also change your behavior and physiology.
All in all you can see that racism sometimes comes from poverty, health, living conditions, treatment, and child labor. So I think that racism is bad, because it can stereotype people who live in poverty, have bad health or child labor. It can affect poverty because of were they live. Health because maybe they needed to stay in the hospital for a long time. And child labor because they need to work every day.
Poverty is not the only struggle that has negative implications; racism is just as damaging. Racism means “ a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that ones own race is superior and has the right to rule others.” Or it can also mean
